Meeting Minutes – January 16, 2020

The January meeting of Logan Square Preservation (LSP) was brought to order at 7:05pm, President Andrew Schneider presided with 65+ attendees, most of whom were members, exceeding the minimum of 20 for a quorum.

The minutes of the November 2019 meeting were approved with an amendment concerning a vote by membership for the Hollander project.

A motion to move the budget agenda item discussion before the Code of Conduct discussion was approved.

Discussion

Budget for 2020 – The budget that was recently approved by the board was discussed in detail by treasurer Bruce Anderson. Larger line items for archival and tree planting were discussed by committee chairs Matt Bergstrom and Shana Liberman respectively. Copies of the budget were printed and available at the meeting and will also be available on the LSP website.
Code of Conduct – The board recently approved a Code of Conduct which was presented by Michelle Warner. Special notes were made of provisions concerning confidentiality, conflict of interest, representation of LSP and gifts. Copies were printed and available at the meeting and are also available on the LSP website. LSP thanks Michelle Warner for her work on this project.

Presidents Report (Andrew Schneider) – Updates on the Grace Church project which is moving along with good progress, an exhibit of historic photos that will be hung in the new Target store at Logans Crossing (old mega mall), a presentation of the historic auto district that will be at the Logan Square Library on Feb 11, announcement of a grant received by the Minnekirken to repair exterior problems with the building and a report that no progress has been made in the Grace Hotel project which is stalled over a land title issue.
Treasurers Report (Bruce Anderson) – Discussed a few changes and updates to the report that is distributed to members. Efforts are being made to make the reporting easier to understand.

Committee Reports

Preservation & Restoration - Kate Paris discussed the ongoing revision of the committee and its structure and procedures. 3 specific projects were discussed, 2414 Sawyer, 3522 Diversey and 2551 Milwaukee. Details of other committee action will be available soon.
Archival (Matt Bergstrom) –  a new catalog system and efforts to post items on our website.
Comfort Station (Sara Slawnik) – The comfort station celebrates a 10 year anniversary and the annual chefs dinner fundraiser is March 23 at Lula Café
Beautification (Shana Liberman) – discussed a potential site at Linden & Sacramento across from the new Target store and the area to the north of Logans Crossing as well as the boys and girls club garden on Palmer.
Membership - Beth McDowell was introduced as the new chair and is working on new membership initiatives.
Outreach & Events (Steve Isakson) – discussed the newsletter and planned upgrades, acknowledged the hard work of editor Leslie Gray and graphics production chief Vicki Logan. Also discussed was reorganization of the LSP website, planning of meetups, planning for the Housewalk Sept 12, and fundraising efforts including the Logan Square Arts Fest June 26-28.

Old Business - none

New Business - brief comments that positive changes have been made and a suggestion that someone make a monument marijuana blend as they did with the Monument beer.
